30 Day Blog - Day 10

How you found out about blogger and why you have one. What is the meaning behind your blog?

When we were living in Holland, I wanted to share my experiences with my family and friends. Doing it by email was a little cumbersome and was a little hard to keep organized. Mindy suggested that I start a blog and so Alyna and Mindy helped me get it set up and learn how to use it. It was a fun way to stay in touch with each other while we were so far away. Now all my kids and many friends have blogs so it is a wonderful way to share the events of our lives without being to intrusive.

Briscoe Family News is pretty self explanatory. My URL comes from a nickname that several of my friends have called me - Nettie Pie. 22 is the age that I thought was the very best age to be.

This group is affectionately known as "The Girls." We served together for four years in the Stake Young Women Presidency. We went through A LOT together - youth conferences, weddings, girls camps, a trek, health problems for ourselves personally and some of our children, a musical, children leaving and returning from missions, and a lot of other large and small challenges related to our calling.

It has been 5 years since we were released but our bond of love and sisterhood continues to be strong. We get together for lunch every 4-6 weeks. We have been able to get together for parties that include our spouses a couple of times this year and we even get away once in a while for an overnighter in SLC. They are some of the greatest ladies I know!

Something You've Done Lately that you are Proud Of

Hummm. I guess I would have to say getting all the projects I wanted to get sewn for Christmas done on time. I had fun sewing some cute aprons for Lisa and Mindy and some bibs for Ralph and Lola. I got them done about the 10th.
I wanted to get a couple of quilts done but wasn't sure I could really get even one of them completely done. Luckily, I had all of the week before Christmas off work so that helped a lot. Jessica and I sat down on the 23rd and watched a movie while we stitched down the bindings .

A Favorite Book

That is a hard one. I have been trying to figure out my all time favorite book. I looked through some of the lists of of top books on the internet and although I have read some of them - a lot of them I wouldn't be able say that I loved or would even recommend.

When I was in elementary school, I cried through Old Yeller. I loved The Witch of Blackbird Pond and have tried to get all my daughters to read it.

I remember two books that I loved as a teenager. I can't remember which one I read first but they were some of the first books I couldn't put down.

Gone With the Wind got me into a lot of trouble with my dad. I would stay up late, late at night to read and would read when I was suppose to be doing my chores or homework or whatever. My dad finally took the book away and hid it. It took me a day or two to find where he had hid it, but I finally found it and finished reading it.

The other book was Magnificent Obsession by Lloyd C. Douglas. This lead to reading The Robe and The Big Fisherman by the same author which I also really enjoyed.

Some of my other recommended reads: Mrs. Mike, The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin, I Didn't Plan to be a Witch, The Last Lecture, Charlie, Sense and Sensibility,

But despite all the great books in the world - if I had to choose one book to read again and again, it would have to be the Book of Mormon. There is so much to ponder and learn from it. I always find such comfort and peace when reading it.

Someplace I've Been

I can't think of any one really spectacular place I've been that I would never tire of going to, to the exclusion of all others. Here's a few of the places I've enjoyed -

Arches National Park and the National Parks of Southern Utah

Costa Rica - probably the most random place we've ever been.

Holland - The only other country I've lived in.
