European Trip 2014, Part 1

Dennis and I headed out on June 5th for our annual trip to the European Cystic Fibrosis conference. Every year the conference is held in a different country in Europe and this year it is being held in Gothenburg, Sweden.
We flew SLC to Vancouver. First time in the Vancouver airport and I wouldn't even remark on it but for the fact that they had a great Sky Lounge (good food) and the fastest internet Dennis had ever seen at an airport. I loved the view of the mountains.

From there we flew to Schiphol airport in Amsterdam. We spent a day there and were able to g
to the Rijksmuseum. It has been partially closed for remodeling for 13 years so even though
I've been 5-6 times, I/we haven't seen the whole thing at once. The building is pretty amazing in
and of itself and of course the paintings are fantastic.
The art library was pretty impressive. Imagine four stories and 3 1/2 walls
of books about art and artists. Just like in Beauty and the Beast.

The outdoor grounds of the museum are just as interesting as the indoor areas.

We spent a little time strolling around the city while looking for the
restaurant we wanted to go to for dinner.
There are some sights that are just so iconic of Amsterdam.

We have collected some treasured memories over the years of time spent exploring
this charming city with family and friends.

The next day we drove over to the Arnhem area. We were fortunate to be able to stay in Carlo and Armanda's home, even though they are currently in Utah. It made our time there so comfortable.
We were able to get together with our friends Marga and Suzann and enjoy lunch in Nijmegen.

Market day in Nijmegen. Aah.... I love it and miss it.
Such a darling home. It is 10 PM and still light outside.

Saturday evening and Sunday we spent going to Stake Conference and visiting ward members. Monday it was back to the hotel near the airport. We drove out to the coast for dinner and a stroll through the village of Zandvoort. It was a beautiful sunny warm day but the beach was starting to clear out when we got there. We ate at a Thai restaurant and the flavors were so unique and yummy!

I don't remember exactly where we were to get this photo but I think it must be close to our hotel.
This photo makes me think of Monet's Lily Pond paintings. Such beautiful scenery!
